During the expression session, I joined the hoards of hungry viewers to get a feel of the action, and sure enough, the closer you get to the water’s edge the more energy and hype you become enthralled with.
The Gold Coast loves surfing |
It is an interesting complex to think of how people react to the energy that others give out. One thing I notice with the surfers on tour is this concept of balance. In essence, how to manage all that energy, hype and attention while remaining calm, focused and ready for the job at hand. Unfortunately in the tricky conditions of yesterday it wasn't an easy feat to keep your cool while waiting for that dream wave to come, and as many surfers know, a lot of the time it seems the ocean is working against you and that wave often arrives a little too late.
However, balance is the key. You take your wins like you take your losses. It’s a life lesson, if things don’t go the way you planned you learn from them and you grow. If you make a mistake in life, you pick yourself up, dust yourself of and you keep pressing forward.
Life is a funny thing, and you can sit and try and ask, “why did this happen?” Or “how come this always happens to me?” I can tell you one thing, everything happens for a reason. No ifs or buts about it. Good or bad, it is how we grow through it which matters. Just like a plant grows towards sunlight, we are all growing closer towards something greater then ourselves. Abe
