The Tour hasn't stopped although I am home for a quick break till Portugal. After the Trestles contest I journeyed home to spend some time with my wife and family before heading out again. Whilst on the other hand the surfers continued on their pilgrimage to Europe. The surfers are currently in France competing in the Quiksilver Pro France: Watch it live Click Here or go to www.quiksilverlive.com/profrance2010/home
I constantly find myself reminding people of the hardships of travelling and been away from loved ones. With the later part of the year being the busiest time for the surfers with more then 2/3 of the events held from June till December. Many of the surfers also compete in 6 Star Primes which are qualifying contests to ensure their World ranking is high enough to qualify before the critical cut of 10 surfers at the end of the year. This can mean spending up to 10 - 11 months away from there homes and loved ones.
It's hard to live the dream even in beautiful Tahiti when your away from your loved ones: CJ, Bobby and Damo. |
There is a price to pay to live the dream of the professional surfer. Spare a thought and a prayer for the surfers as they travel and compete.
