The Sunsets

Story Time Under a Tahiti Sunset
After two days of competition the sunsets once again on an amazing day of surfing. However, the Billabong Pro Tahiti 2010 marks the turning point for some of the Pro Surfers careers. The tour is been cut from 45 surfers to 32 after this contest. With round 3 almost over there are already 12 of the 13 surfers who have been eliminated from the world tour.

As the sport of surfing advances there have been a few changes to make the sport more professional. One of the steps the ASP took recently was to change the tour from a 45 man contest format to a 32 man format. The change has come as the surfers have been eagerly calling out for more prize money for their World Tour victories. In the past it has seemed that the prize money has not matched the achievement. It has been a long process which some of the pro surfers have fought painstakingly for.

With this change some veterans of the tour have been missed the cut and could potentially mean the end of their professional surfing careers. The resilience of the surfers is been tested and emotions have been higher than ever after heats.

Where the hard decisions are made

However, just as the sun rises and falls each day so is the rise and fall of the professional surfer. Unfortunately it can be a dog eat dog world in the pro surfing arena. One day you can be the golden child, the next big thing or number one in the world. The next day you can be chewed up and spat out. Talk to any veteran of the sport and they will tell you, the key to having a successful career in surfing is about taking your wins like you take your losses. Remember to count your blessings no matter how good or bad things are going. I think that’s a lesson we can all learn.
